U Every adolescent needs a “special
adult: to talk with -
someone other than parents, someone who won’t judge or worry or
repeat later what he or she said. |
U A sponsor ideally assumes the role of
“mentor” or “spiritual guide” for a teenager. Someone he or she can put
his/her hopes, fears, and questions into words with who does not
have parental authority over them. A person who will continue to be a part
of their faith journey throughout their life. |
U Spirituality includes all our deeper
concerns… concerns about life’s
meaning, our identity, relationships and of course, the place of God in
human life. So a “spiritual guide”
is not someone who only talks about prayer, but who takes an interest in a
teen’s inner journey, the struggle to grow into maturity.” |

“Happy are those who know they are spiritually
poor; |
the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them! “Happy
are those who mourn; |
God will comfort them! “Happy are those who are
humble; |
they will receive what God has promised! |
“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do
what God requires; |
God will satisfy them fully! “Happy are those
who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them! ‘Happy are the
pure in heart, |
they will see God! “Happy are those who work for
peace; |
God will call them his children! |
“Happy are those who are persecuted because they
do what God requires; the Kingdom of God belongs to them! |
“Happy are you when people insult you and
persecute you and tell |
all kinds of evil lies against you because you
are my followers. |
Be happy and glad for a great reward is kept for
you in heaven. |
This is how the prophets who lived before you
were persecuted.” |

Each student has received a booklet entitled |
“What
Catholics Believe”. |
Every
week the classes will focus on a particular question. |
Candidates were provided with a copy of the book
“Outlines of the Catholic Faith” as a reference guide and each classroom
contains a Catechism of the Catholic Church. |
Before Confirmation each student will receive a
series of business size reference cards for study with the questions and
answers on the card. |
v Growth in prayer can be fostered by
providing different experiences of prayer for the candidates: |
Participate in the Parish Liturgy of Evening |
Prayer during our Forty Hours Devotions |
( All
Seventh graders should be present for |

A program of Christian service is designed
around the spiritual and corporal works of mercy and adapted to the age
level of the candidates. Service
that flows into the normal life of the parish is |
encouraged, since such service can become
on-going. |
“This formation should be |
directed
toward their giving |
the witness of a Christian life and exercising |
the Christian apostolate.” |
